Masko — Local Data Station

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 13, 2026 · Version 2.1.0

In brief: Masko processes the text and files you choose on your device. The extension does not send that content to a Masko server, and it does not include analytics or advertising code.

What Masko processes

When you use a feature, Masko may process the text, table data, documents, or images that you select or enter. Depending on your input, this content can include identifying details, location information, financial or health information, authentication secrets, personal communications, or other website content.

On supported AI chat pages—ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Studio, and the legacy ChatGPT domain—Masko adds user-facing controls. To provide those controls, it can inspect supported text fields and pasted or dropped text for sensitive values, and can check the current prompt when you use its pre-send warning. Pasted text is processed locally before the page receives it. Text typed manually is visible to the chat site's own page code while you type; Masko may warn about unmasked text before sending, but you decide whether to proceed.

How Masko uses and stores data

Masko uses processed content only to provide the feature you invoked, such as masking text, creating a synthetic table sample, deduplicating or transforming a file, or editing a document. Processing happens in the browser on your device.

To support reversible masking, Masko stores the local placeholder glossary and your settings in Chrome extension storage. Some interface preferences, such as the position and collapsed state of in-page controls, are stored in the local storage of the supported chat site where you use them. These preferences are not glossary content. Masko does not sync either kind of information to a developer server. Glossary entries remain until you remove them, use an available retention setting, clear the extension's data, or uninstall the extension. Site-specific interface preferences may remain until you clear that site's browser storage.

Masko does not collect browsing history, location, keystroke logs, or usage analytics. It does not include remote JavaScript or WebAssembly code.

Sharing and third parties

Masko does not transmit the content it processes to the developer or to third parties. It does not sell user data, use it for advertising, or make it available for human review. If you copy or send content to an AI service or another destination, that action is under your control; the receiving service handles it under its own terms and privacy practices.

Your choices

You choose whether to use Masko's controls on supported AI pages and whether to send any resulting text to those services. You can delete saved glossary entries and settings in Masko or remove its local data through Chrome's extension settings. Uninstalling Masko removes its extension storage. Files you export are saved through your browser's normal download flow and remain under your control.

Privacy policy changes

If Masko's data practices change, this policy will be updated before a release that changes those practices. The latest version will be available at this URL.
